Marvel Rivals prepares exciting new updates for its second season, including revamped team-up abilities and fresh character cosmetics. Explore what NetEase has planned for Spider-Man and Iron Man's gameplay enhancements and visual upgrades.
What's Coming in Marvel Rivals Season 2
Revamped Team-Up Mechanics

Marvel Rivals Game Director Guangyun Chen has confirmed significant changes to team-up mechanics for Season 2. During a March 14 interview with PC Gamer, Chen detailed the development team's plans for these strategic gameplay elements.
"Beginning with Season 2, we'll introduce completely new Team-Up abilities alongside seasonal updates while refining existing ones," Chen explained. "These changes, combined with our seasonal balance adjustments, will create fresh combat dynamics and a renewed gameplay experience."
The current roster features 17 team-up abilities, including the Ragnarok Rebirth synergy between Hela and Loki/Thor, the Lunar Force connection for Cloak & Dagger with Moon Knight, and the Allied Agents partnership for Hawkeye and Black Widow. With the increasing number of playable characters, NetEase faces growing challenges in maintaining skill balance across these cooperative abilities.
Character Balancing Approach

Chen provided insights into NetEase's methodology for maintaining game balance as new heroes enter the roster. "We carefully track key performance indicators across different game modes," he stated. "This includes analyzing win rates, selection frequency, damage output, healing stats, damage reception, and elimination counts across various competitive tiers and tournaments. These metrics form the foundation of our balancing decisions."
"We also examine hero team compositions and their success rates across game modes," Chen continued. "These insights guide our overall balancing strategy. Player feedback remains another crucial component in our decision-making process."
Following Chen's January statement to Metro about introducing a new hero every half-season, Marvel Rivals plans to expand its roster by approximately eight characters annually. With each three-month season bringing fresh additions, developers face increasing complexity in maintaining balanced gameplay.
Chen confirmed substantial progress in development: "Season 2 content is fully prepared, with Seasons 3 and 4 already designed and in active development. Our production pipeline remains on track." These plans align with NetEase's commitment to supporting Marvel Rivals for at least a decade, ensuring long-term content delivery for dedicated players.
Steampunk Iron Man and Spider-Punk 2099 Arriving March 20
NetEase announced via Marvel Rivals' official X account on March 18 that two highly anticipated character skins will launch on March 20 (7 PM PDT). The Spider-Punk 2099 variant gives Spider-Man an edgy cyberpunk makeover complete with digital visor, spiked mohawk, and an electric guitar accessory. Iron Man receives a Victorian-era transformation with his Steam Power skin, featuring prominent exhaust pipes and a glowing furnace core in his armor.
These designs gained popularity during the game's beta testing phase, following the successful release of Loki's Presidential skin from the same period. While NetEase confirmed the release date, pricing details for these cosmetic items remain undisclosed.
With Season 1 concluding, NetEase focuses on implementing Season 2's significant updates. Marvel Rivals is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms. For continuous updates about Marvel Rivals' evolving content, check our latest coverage below!
