The Parabolic Microphone falls under the category of Optional Equipment in Phasmophobia, meaning it's not automatically provided to your character. To add it to your arsenal, you'll need to reach specific levels and purchase it from the in-game Shop.

Like other equipment in Phasmophobia, the Parabolic Microphone comes in three tiers, each offering improved quality and reliability. Here's how to unlock each tier:

  • Tier 1: Reach Level 7 and visit the shop to add it to your equipment loadout.
  • Tier 2: Unlocked at Level 31, this upgrade costs $3,000.
  • Tier 3: Available at Level 72, this final upgrade will set you back $5,000.

Once unlocked, you can equip up to two Parabolic Microphones in your loadout, regardless of your party size. Keep in mind, if you decide to Prestige your character, you'll need to unlock each tier again as your level resets to 1.

To use the Parabolic Microphone during your ghost-hunting contracts, ensure it's part of your loadout through the Shop portal. This ensures it's available in the truck when you arrive at the investigation site. Note that in Challenge Mode, the preset loadout might not include the Parabolic Microphone.

Once on-site, select the Parabolic Microphone from the equipment wall in the truck to equip it. Use the designated button to turn it on or off. If you're using the Tier 3 version, you'll benefit from an attached radar screen that helps pinpoint the direction of sounds.

The Parabolic Microphone is particularly useful on medium or large maps in Phasmophobia. It allows you to track the ghost's location through sounds such as objects being thrown, doors moving, or the ghost's voice. This can be a game-changer compared to traditional methods like using a temperature gauge or EMF Reader.

Additionally, the Parabolic Microphone can help you complete Optional Objectives that require capturing the ghost's voice. Certain ghosts, like the Deogen or Banshee, emit unique noises that can only be detected with this device, aiding in their identification.

That wraps up how to unlock and use the Parabolic Microphone in Phasmophobia. For more tips, guides, and the latest news on the game, including how to unlock all achievements and trophies, be sure to check out The Escapist.
