If you've been keeping an eye on the latest global game releases, you might feel a pang of disappointment over one that's currently out of reach. Medabot Survivors, the newest addition to the beloved robot role-playing series, is set to launch on February 10th. This mobile game introduces fans to an exciting bullet heaven action experience, but, as is often the case, it's only available in Japan for iOS and Android users.
As reported by Gematsu, Medabots might ring a bell for those of us who grew up in the wake of Pokémon's monumental success. During that era, there was a rush to bring any Japanese franchise with merchandising potential to the West. While Digimon became a household name—and some would argue it even surpassed Pokémon—Medabots was one of those series that never quite made it big here. However, back in Japan, Medabots has been a significant franchise, far more popular than it ever was in Western markets.
It's no surprise, then, that Medabot Survivors is venturing into the Survivors-like genre, which has been gaining traction globally. Although it's currently exclusive to Japan, this move is not only a treat for Medabots enthusiasts but also a fascinating development to watch as this genre continues to expand worldwide.
Surviving the Survivors While the term "Survivors-like" might evoke thoughts of the game Vampire Survivors, this genre has roots that stretch much further back. The launch of Medabot Survivors is not just a boon for fans but also an interesting case study as we witness the genre's wildfire spread across the globe.
Having gained a bit of insight into the Japanese gaming scene, I can tell you there are many excellent titles that unfortunately might never make it to our shores. However, if Medabot Survivors proves to be a hit, there's hope that we might eventually get our hands on it.
In the meantime, if you're eager to explore upcoming releases you can play right now, check out our latest feature in Ahead of the Game, where Catherine Dellosa delves into the enchanting world of Cat Restaurant.
