Metro 2033's "Cursed" Mission: A Complete Guide
Despite its age, Metro 2033 remains a fan favorite, especially after the release of the VR title, Metro Awakening. This guide focuses on the challenging "Cursed" mission, set in Moscow's Turgenevskaya station (as it's known in the books and real world). The mission's unclear objectives and confusing layout often trip up players. It begins after witnessing an anomaly eliminate a nosalis horde; Khan uses a railcar to reach the next station, where "Cursed" starts.
Finding the Bomb
After exiting the railcar, follow Khan to the defenders at the barricaded escalators. They'll explain that an explosives team vanished while attempting to collapse the tunnel, preventing further nosalis attacks. Your task: find and detonate the bomb. Expect constant nosalis attacks; retreat to the defenders for support if overwhelmed. You'll likely need to retreat at least once during your search.
The bomb is located at the far end of the right-hand tunnel. Avoid the ghostly shadows in the straight-ahead path—they'll damage you. Once you have the bomb, either proceed to the adjacent tunnel or retreat if necessary.
Destroying the Tunnel
To detonate the bomb, enter the left-hand tunnel (from the defenders' perspective). A cutscene will trigger; Artyom automatically plants and lights the fuse. Escape immediately to avoid the blast. Even with the tunnel destroyed, nosalises will still infiltrate via other routes, so remain vigilant. Alternatively, a grenade or pipe bomb in the same area will achieve the same result.
Destroying the Airlock
Securing the station requires one more step: destroying the airlock. Take the stairs to the right of the main platform, to the torchlit area. Ignore the nosalises and locate the support columns. Interacting with them plants a timed pipe bomb. As with the tunnel, evacuate quickly after activating it. With both entrances sealed, follow Khan to a shrine room, leading to the "Armory" mission.
