Monster Hunter Wilds has experienced a significant decline in its player count, now approaching the numbers of the older title, Monster Hunter World. Dive deeper into the reasons behind this drop and explore the game's upcoming first collaboration.
Monster Hunter Wilds’ Player Count Goes Way Down
From Over 1 Million to 40k
Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) launched to great acclaim, becoming Capcom’s fastest-selling game of the year. Despite its initial success, the game's concurrent player count has significantly dropped three months post-launch.
According to Monster Hunter enthusiast and YouTuber Zenny, MH Wilds saw its player count halve since May. Data from SteamDB shows a 24-hour peak of 41,101 players for MH Wilds, closely trailing behind MH World's current peak of 26,479.
In contrast, during its third month on Steam, MH World boasted over 100,000 concurrent players, far exceeding MH Wilds' current figure of around 40,000. The decline in MH Wilds' player base is often attributed to a perceived lack of endgame content, despite the release of Title Update 1. Fans are hopeful that the upcoming second Title Update this summer, featuring new monsters and events, will revitalize interest in the game.
MH Wilds x Street Fighter Collab Teased
Another factor that could potentially boost MH Wilds' player numbers is an exciting collaboration teased with Capcom's iconic fighting game, Street Fighter. A tweet from the official Monster Hunter account on May 19 showcased a paw mark styled in Street Fighter 6’s distinctive urban aesthetic.
While details remain unconfirmed, a crossover between these two Capcom franchises is highly anticipated, especially given their successful collaboration in Monster Hunter World. That event introduced Ryu and Sakura armor sets, along with paid DLC such as Hadoken and Shoryuken gestures, and the Handler's Chun-Li Costume.
This would be MH Wilds' inaugural collaboration, and fans are eager to see how Capcom will execute this crossover. Monster Hunter has a rich history of collaborations with various IPs, including Devil May Cry and Sonic for MH4, Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem for MH Gen U, and Assassin’s Creed and Megaman for MH World, among others.
With a promising lineup of updates and collaborations planned for the rest of the year, many anticipate a resurgence in MH Wilds' player base. Monster Hunter Wilds is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned to our updates for the latest on Monster Hunter Wilds!
