NieR: Automata's world extends beyond the android-machine conflict, offering peaceful diversions like fishing. This optional activity can be easily bypassed, but it provides a low-risk method for acquiring rare items and quick cash without the resource expenditure of combat.
This guide details how to fish and what rewards await.
How To Fish In NieR: Automata
Fishing is possible in almost any body of water, even shallow areas. Simply stand still in the water; a fishing prompt will appear above your character. Holding the prompt button initiates the fishing minigame. Casting and reeling are controlled by a single button:
- O on PlayStation
- B on Xbox
- Enter on PC
After casting, wait for the pod to be fully submerged with an audible "plop." Quickly press the reel-in button; a delayed response results in a missed catch. You can cast repeatedly without limitation. A helpful plug-in chip displays a fishing icon in the top-right corner when fishing is possible.
Rewards For Fishing In NieR: Automata
Most fish and junk items acquired through fishing are valuable commodities. This presents a safe and efficient early-game money-making strategy, particularly useful for increasing plug-in chip capacity. Fishing in sewers offers a chance to obtain the Iron Pipe, a potentially powerful weapon.
