Nintendo Warns U.S. Customers: Switch 2 Delivery Not Guaranteed Due to High Demand

By AuroraMay 05,2025

Nintendo has issued a crucial warning to its U.S. fans regarding the highly anticipated Switch 2, following a similar alert in Japan about struggling to meet demand. A recent update on Nintendo's website informs those who registered their interest in purchasing a Switch 2 through the My Nintendo Store that delivery by the June 5 release date cannot be guaranteed. This means that invitation emails for purchasing the console might arrive after the Switch 2's launch. However, Nintendo assures customers that a shipping date will be confirmed at the time of purchase.

In a statement, Nintendo expressed gratitude for the overwhelming enthusiasm and promised to work diligently to fulfill orders as soon as products are available. "Thank you to those of you who have already registered your interest in purchasing from My Nintendo Store," the company said. "We're thrilled by the enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2! Due to the very high demand, we will be working diligently to fulfill orders as product becomes available, but delivery by June 5 is not guaranteed. Your invitation email may arrive after the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. We'll confirm your shipping date upon purchase."

Nintendo suggests that fans might have a better chance of securing a Switch 2 at launch by pre-ordering through third-party retailers, although pre-orders have already sold out at places like GameStop. "If you wish to increase your opportunity of obtaining a Nintendo Switch 2 system at launch, please visit our participating retail partners above," the statement advised, directing fans to a now-sold-out GameStop link. Those willing to wait for an invitation from the My Nintendo Store need take no further action after registering their interest.

The difficulty fans experienced pre-ordering the Switch 2 on April 24, combined with Nintendo's warning, suggests that obtaining the next-gen console will be challenging around its launch date. Earlier this week, Nintendo warned its customers in Japan that a significant number would miss out on pre-ordering the Switch 2 directly from the company. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa noted on X / Twitter that 2.2 million people in Japan alone applied to pre-order the Switch 2 from the My Nintendo Store, far exceeding the number of consoles available for the June 5 delivery.

According to an FAQ on Nintendo's website, the first batch of invitations for the My Nintendo Store in the U.S. will begin on May 8, 2025, with additional batches sent out periodically until purchasing is opened to everyone. Initial invitation emails will be sent on a first-come, first-serve basis to eligible registrants who meet specific priority criteria. Invitees will have 72 hours from the time the email is sent to complete their purchase.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order invitation priority requirements:

  • You must have purchased any Nintendo Switch Online membership.
  • You must have had any paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for a minimum of 12 months.
  • You must have opted in to share gameplay data and have at least 50 hours total gameplay hours.

Last week, Nintendo confirmed that Switch 2 pre-orders in the U.S. would start on April 24, 2025, with the original price of $449.99 and launch date of June 5 remaining unchanged. The Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle will stay at $499.99, and the prices for both physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) will not change at launch. However, Nintendo has increased the price of Switch 2 accessories due to ongoing tariff issues.

Nintendo had initially planned to open pre-orders for the Switch 2 on April 9 but delayed them to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.
