Currently, due to high demand and limited supply following their launch, prices are elevated. However, the RTX 5070 Ti and RX 9070 XT stand out as the go-to choices for those seeking a high-end gaming experience without the top-tier expense.

Comparing the specs of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti and the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT is complex due to their differing architectures. Nvidia's CUDA cores and AMD's Shading Units, while serving similar functions, aren't directly comparable in terms of quantity.
The AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT features 64 RDNA 4 compute units, each equipped with 64 shader units, totaling 4,096 shader units. Each compute unit also includes two AI Accelerators and one RT Accelerator, resulting in 128 and 64 units respectively. AMD complements this with 16GB of GDDR6 memory on a 256-bit bus, which is ample for today's games but might be pushed to its limits at 4K in the future.
On the other hand, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti comes with 16GB of the newer GDDR7 memory, also on a 256-bit bus, offering higher bandwidth due to increased memory speeds. It boasts 70 Streaming Multiprocessors, which equates to 8,960 CUDA Cores. This is twice the number of Shader Units per Compute Unit, a trend Nvidia has followed since the RTX 3080. However, this doesn't necessarily mean double the performance.

Despite the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti's superior specs on paper, real-world performance tells a different story. Both the RTX 5070 Ti and the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT are fantastic options for 4K gaming, and they rank among the best for 1440p gaming as well.
In my review of the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT, I anticipated it would be close to the RTX 5070 Ti, though lagging in ray-traced games. Surprisingly, in titles like Cyberpunk 2077, the AMD card stayed within a few frames of the pricier RTX 5070 Ti.
There are instances where the RTX 5070 Ti outperforms, such as in Total War: Warhammer 3, where it achieves 87fps at 4K compared to the 9070 XT's 76fps. However, the Radeon RX 9070 XT averaged 2% faster overall. This small margin is significant considering the 9070 XT costs 21% less.

Choosing a graphics card today involves more than just hardware specs. Both Nvidia and AMD provide comprehensive software suites that enhance their cards' capabilities.
Nvidia's RTX 5070 Ti shines with its DLSS suite, which includes AI upscaling and Frame Generation. With DLSS 4, Nvidia introduces multi-frame generation, capable of producing three AI-generated frames for every rendered frame, boosting frame rates at the cost of a slight increase in latency, mitigated by Nvidia Reflex. This feature is best utilized when you're already achieving at least 45fps, preferably over 60fps.
AMD's Radeon RX 9070 XT also supports Frame Generation, but it's limited to one interpolated frame per rendered frame. The significant advancement for AMD this generation is FSR 4, introducing AI upscaling for the first time. While previous FSR versions relied on temporal upscaling, which could sometimes result in less sharp images, FSR 4 leverages the Radeon RX 9070 XT's AI accelerators for more precise machine learning-based upscaling. Although not as fast as FSR 3, it's a promising start for AMD's AI upscaling technology.
