Omori Digital Only Release Confirmed

Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has pulled the plug on the game's physical release across Europe for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. The announcement, made via X (formerly Twitter), cites technical challenges related to multilingual European localization as the reason for the cancellation.

A String of Postponements Leads to Cancellation

The physical release, initially slated for March 2023, faced multiple delays, first shifting to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally January 2025. Pre-orders were subsequently cancelled by retailers like Amazon, ultimately culminating in the complete cancellation. While Meridiem Games stated technical difficulties with localization, further specifics were not provided in response to fan inquiries on X.

This news is a significant setback for European fans, particularly those anticipating the game's official release in Spanish and other European languages. While digital versions remain accessible, the option of a physical European release is now lost, leaving importing a US copy as the only alternative for those seeking a physical copy.

Omori, an RPG following a young boy named Sunny grappling with trauma, blends real-world and dream-world narratives. Initially launched on PC in 2020, the game later expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox release was subsequently removed due to an issue with merchandise designs from the game's developer, OMOCAT. The cancellation of the European physical release further complicates access for European players.
