Sony has officially discontinued its PlayStation Stars loyalty program less than three years after its introduction.
The rewards initiative stopped accepting new members today, and exiting participants won't be able to rejoin—any remaining points will be permanently erased upon membership cancellation.
Current members can continue accumulating points until July 23, 2025, and redeem existing balances until November 3, 2026.
Despite the program's termination, Sony confirms PlayStation Stars' Digital Collectibles will remain viewable indefinitely—meaning owners can cherish their 3D digital assets (including that Jim Ryan bobblehead) for the foreseeable future.
"Through operating PlayStation Stars, we've gained valuable insights about player engagement preferences," stated Grace Chen, PlayStation's VP of Network Advertising, Loyalty and Licensed Merchandise. "As industry and player trends evolve, we're refocusing our efforts and sunsetting the current PlayStation Stars program while exploring ways to implement these learnings."
The announcement didn't outline any replacement program or specify what operational insights Sony gained from PlayStation Stars.

Launched in July 2022, PlayStation Stars rewarded PS5 owners with redeemable points for PlayStation Store purchases and activity completions—from surveys to game trials.
The program competed with Microsoft's Xbox Rewards initiative, though both offerings gradually became less lucrative for participants.
Following a month-long service outage last summer, Sony implemented changes last October—including shortened point expiration windows (from 24 to 12 months) and removing PlayStation Plus subscriptions as eligible purchases. Now, the entire program faces complete discontinuation.
