Pokémon TCG Pocket Trading Update Postponed to Fall

By SimonJul 30,2025

  • Pokémon TCG Pocket reveals trading feature overhaul
  • Trading Tokens scrapped, replaced with Shinedust system
  • More Shinedust updates planned for future

The launch of Pokémon TCG Pocket thrilled fans, but its trading feature quickly hit a snag due to a complex currency system and strict trading limits. A new update aims to address these issues with significant changes.

Trading Tokens are now eliminated, removing the need to swap cards for trading currency. Instead, trading cards of three-diamond, four-diamond, and one-star rarity will use Shinedust, earned by opening booster packs and receiving duplicate cards already in your Card Dex.

Existing Trade Tokens can be converted to Shinedust, which is also used to acquire flair, prompting further planned adjustments. An upcoming update will enable sharing cards you want to trade via an in-game feature.

Trading Challenges Persist

As noted earlier, the trading system’s initial rollout felt lackluster. In-game trading requires tighter restrictions than real-world trading to prevent abuse in a digital environment, creating unique challenges.

These changes, however, won’t arrive until fall, despite being announced in spring, suggesting a slower response from the Pokémon TCG Pocket team than fans might hope for.
