NetEase's Open-World RPG, Ananta (formerly Project Mugen), Unveils New Trailer
Remember Project Mugen, the urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? It's had a name change! Now known as Ananta, this title, initially revealed at Gamescom 2023, has finally released a new trailer after a long silence. More information is promised on December 5th. Until then, check out the teaser:
The Meaning Behind the Name Change
While developers haven't commented on the name change, "Ananta" translates to "infinite" in Sanskrit, mirroring the meaning of the original "Mugen." The Chinese title reinforces this thematic consistency. The gaming community is divided on the rebranding, but generally relieved the project continues.
Comparisons to Neverness to Everness
Many are comparing Ananta to Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. Ananta's trailer is visually impressive, though it lacks gameplay footage, giving Neverness to Everness a potential advantage for some players. Personally, I find Ananta's aesthetic more captivating.
A Mysterious Social Media Overhaul
Adding to the intrigue, the development team has deleted all previous social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only their Discord server remains, simply renamed. This unexpected move has left many gamers perplexed.
Gameplay and Characters
In Ananta, players assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a paranormal investigator battling supernatural chaos. The cast includes Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila. For more details on gameplay, visit the official website.
