This eerie technique makes The Shape a formidable presence, systematically taking down players one by one.
This comprehensive Dead by Daylight guide is designed to help players maximize their potential with The Shape, offering insights into the best builds, including both teachable and non-teachable perks. These recommendations cater to players of all experience levels, ensuring everyone can fully embrace the sinister nature of this iconic character.
Updated on January 13, 2025, by Siddarth Narasimman: Despite being considered one of the weaker Killers in the game, Michael Myers remains a favorite among new players. The recent buffs introduced in Patch 8.4.0 have significantly enhanced his capabilities, making him a more viable choice. With these updates in mind, it's an opportune time for players to explore the most effective builds and add-ons for this horror legend.
The Shape: Best Non-Teachable Build (2025)
Playing The Shape without access to other Killers' perks presents a unique challenge, yet it's far from insurmountable. This build leverages Save the Best for Last to minimize chase times while utilizing Sloppy Butcher to slow the game's pace. Additionally, Bitter Murmur and Hex: No One Escapes Death empower The Shape to obliterate remaining Survivors in the endgame without the need for extensive stalking.
Save the Best for Last (The Shape) – Earn a token for hitting a Survivor other than the Obsession, up to eight tokens. Each token reduces the cooldown of successful basic attacks by 4%, maxing out at 32%. Hitting the Obsession removes two tokens.
Hex: No One Escapes Death (General Perk) – Once the last generator is powered, all Survivors are afflicted with the Exposed status, making them vulnerable to one-hit downs, and the Killer gains a 4% Haste effect until the Hex Totem is cleansed.
Bitter Murmur (General Perk) – Every time a generator is completed, the auras of Survivors within 16 meters are revealed for 5 seconds. After the final generator, all Survivors' auras are revealed for 10 seconds.
Sloppy Butcher (General Perk) – Inflict the Mangled and Hemorrhage status effects with basic attacks, which slow healing by 25% and cause regression in unfinished healing progress.
The Shape: Best Build (2025)
This build is tailored to hinder generator progress with a range of perks while providing a strong start, compensating for The Shape's limited early-game mobility. The strategy involves territorial control over a group of generators, closely monitoring their progress, and using The Artist's Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance and The Cenobite's Deadlock to devastating effect.
Lethal Pursuer from The Nemesis aids in quickly locating Survivors to initiate stalking, ensuring a robust early game. Meanwhile, Coup de Grâce enhances The Shape's performance around loops, where he traditionally struggles.
Lethal Pursuer (The Nemesis) – At the game's start, see the auras of all Survivors for nine seconds, with all aura-reading effects extended by two seconds.
Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance (The Artist) – Begin with four tokens. Hooking different Survivors on white Scourge Hooks consumes one token and causes the most progressed generator to lose 25% of its progress.
Deadlock (The Cenobite) – Upon generator completion, the generator with the most progress is blocked for 25 seconds, marked by a white aura.
Coup de Grâce (The Twins) – Gain two tokens per completed generator. Consume one token to boost the lunge attack distance by 80%.
The Shape: Best Add-Ons (2025)
Memorial Flower
At the common rarity, the Memorial Flower stands out as the best add-on for Michael Myers. While not groundbreaking, its 11% increase in stalking rate significantly enhances The Shape’s already slow stalking speed.
Dead Rabbit
Despite the eerie nature of offering the Dead Rabbit to The Entity, its 25% reduction in Terror Radius during Evil Within II is a substantial advantage. However, its increase in Terror Radius during Evil Within III suggests pairing it with perks like Monitor and Abuse to manage early Survivor alerts.
J. Myers Memorial
This add-on ranks as The Shape's second-best, granting a 25% boost to stalking gain rate. It's often combined with the Tombstone Piece to counteract the increased time needed to reach Evil Within III.
Hair Bow
Enhancing The Shape's threat level during Evil Within III, the Hair Bow is an excellent choice. Pairing it with the J. Myers Memorial ensures consistent pressure across the map with multiple Evil Within III activations.
Tombstone Piece
Considered The Shape's most potent add-on, the Tombstone Piece allows for an instant kill of any Survivor upon reaching Evil Within III, akin to the old Memento Mori. This ability can swiftly shift the game's momentum and surpasses the Ultra Rare Judith’s Tombstone by eliminating the associated speed penalty.
Lock Of Hair
Lock of Hair extends Evil Within III by 40 additional seconds and boosts the stalking rate for this state. While generally outclassed by the Hair Bow, it's a viable choice for players using Lethal Pursuer and J. Myers Memorial.
Fragrant Tuft of Hair
Though it drastically reduces the stalking rate by 200%, the Fragrant Tuft of Hair provides infinite Evil Within III. This means no need to manage your power, enabling instant downs without prior stalking.
