Smite 2 Goes Free-to-Play

Smite 2's eagerly awaited free-to-play open beta is now live across multiple platforms including PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Steam Deck. This exciting phase follows a successful closed alpha, offering fans a chance to dive into the action-packed world of this third-person MOBA sequel. Developed by Titan Forge Games, Smite 2 leverages the power of Unreal Engine 5 to deliver a refined gaming experience with enhanced visuals and combat mechanics.

The launch of the open beta coincides with a new Smite 2 patch that introduces a wealth of fresh content. Players can now explore the new god, Aladdin, who brings unique abilities to the battlefield. Aladdin, specifically designed for Smite 2, can run along walls and revive after death, thanks to his companion's ability to grant three wishes. His ultimate showcases his iconic lamp, allowing him to capture enemies and force them into a 1v1 showdown.

Alongside Aladdin, the open beta introduces four other gods to the roster: Geb, the Egyptian God of Earth; Mulan, the Chinese Ascendant Warrior; Agni from the Hindu Pantheon; and Ullr from the Norse Pantheon. This diverse lineup ensures players have a variety of strategic options to choose from.

The open beta also brings back the beloved 3v3 Joust mode, allowing players to engage in intense battles on a smaller map. Additionally, a brand-new Arthurian-themed map, updates to the Conquest map, and an alpha version of the Assault game mode are now available. Players can further customize their gods with new optional enhancements called Aspects, adding depth to their gameplay experience.

Titan Forge Games' creative director has expressed gratitude for the community's feedback during the closed alpha, stating that Smite 2 surpasses its predecessor in many ways. The developer has teased "ambitious new content" set to arrive in 2025, promising an exciting future for the game.

While the open beta is available on almost every major platform, Nintendo Switch users will have to wait longer as the developer has concerns about the console's performance capabilities. However, Titan Forge Games remains open to the possibility of a future release on the Switch 2.
