Smite 2's Open Beta Launch: A New Era for the MOBA

Get ready! Smite 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular MOBA, launches its free-to-play open beta on January 14, 2025. This marks a significant milestone for the Unreal Engine 5-powered game, which entered Alpha in 2024.

This open beta isn't just a simple launch; it's a substantial update brimming with new content. Alongside the beta, players will welcome Aladdin, the first God from the Tales of Arabia pantheon, a Magical Assassin and Jungler with unique wall-running and lamp-trapping abilities. The update also brings back beloved Gods from the original Smite, including Mulan, Geb, Ullr, and Agni, each with revamped skill sets.

Expect a significantly expanded roster. While the Alpha featured 14 Gods, the open beta will boast nearly 50, with a projected total nearing 45 by the end of January 2025.

Beyond the Gods, Smite 2's open beta introduces exciting new game modes:

  • Joust (3v3): An Arthurian-themed map featuring teleporters and stealth grass for strategic gameplay.
  • Duel (1v1): Utilizing the same map as Joust, offering intense one-on-one combat.

The innovative "Aspects" system adds another layer of strategic depth. Players can sacrifice a God's standard ability for a powerful alternative. For instance, Athena loses her ally-shielding teleport but gains a foe-weakening one. Twenty Gods will initially feature Aspects, with more to come.

Quality-of-life improvements are also a major focus, including Role Guides for newcomers, improved in-game messaging, PC text chat, enhanced item store navigation, detailed death recaps, and more.

The competitive scene is also heating up. The first Smite 2 esports tournament finale will take place at the HyperX Arena in Las Vegas from January 17-19.

Smite 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Mark your calendars for January 14th and prepare for battle!
