This version follows a year after its PlayStation 5 release, bringing enhanced capabilities to the PC platform.

Turning our attention to No Return mode, two new characters are being introduced: Bill and Marlene from The Last of Us Part I. Bill adopts a "Smuggler" playstyle, allowing access to a custom pump shotgun from dead drops and doubling rewards from drops, while being stronger against melee attacks but unable to dodge. Marlene embodies a "Risk Taker" playstyle with a Custom Assault Rifle, "All or Nothing" gambits, and the ability to reroute her No Return path once per run.

Additionally, four new maps are being added to No Return mode:

  • Overlook: Set high above Seattle with vertical gameplay, recalling a Seraphites encounter from the campaign.
  • School: An abandoned elementary school where Ellie and Dina faced off against the W.L.F.
  • Streets: Set in the overgrown Seattle neighborhood of Hillcrest.
  • Nest: Familiar to players who have played as Abby through an Infected-infested building.

All the new No Return content, including new Trophies and additional bug fixes, will be available on PS5 alongside the PC launch through a free downloadable 2.0.0 patch.

In line with Sony's recent policy changes regarding PlayStation Network requirements, The Last of Us 2 Remastered on PC offers an optional PSN log-in. Players who choose to sign in with their PSN account will gain access to PlayStation overlay and PSN Trophies, along with 50 in-game points to activate bonus features and a new skin for Ellie featuring Jordan A. Mun’s jacket from Naughty Dog’s upcoming PS5 game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. PS5 players can also unlock this skin through the 2.0 patch using in-game bonus points.

Earlier this month, Neil Druckmann, director of The Last of Us, discussed Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet in an interview with Alex Garland. Druckmann revealed that the game, which has been in development for four years, explores themes of faith and religion in an alternate historical timeline, with Tati Gabrielle starring as Jordan A. Mun.

The PC release of The Last of Us Part II Remastered arrives just before the premiere of Season 2 of HBO's The Last of Us TV series. Showrunners Druckmann and Craig Mazin have confirmed that spores, omitted from Season 1, will make a return in the upcoming season.
