Zynga has revealed plans to discontinue Star Wars Hunters completely just nine months post-launch, with previously announced Steam PC version plans now canceled.
The free-to-play team-based arena battler, developed by NaturalMotion, debuted on Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms in June 2024. IGN's Star Wars: Hunters review awarded it a 7/10, noting: "While Star Wars: Hunters offers entertaining PvP action, its appeal wears thin fairly quickly - like an amusing but forgettable cantina brawl."
Final Countdown Begins
The shutdown timeline reveals:
- March 25: Season 5 extended with recycled events and bundles
- April 15: Final update releases (including free new Support Hunter Tuya) with in-game purchases disabled
- October 1: Servers permanently shut down
Zynga confirmed the Steam version, previously scheduled for early access this year, has been canceled without explanation. The title's Steam store page now displays a discontinued notice.
The Bigger Star Wars Gaming Picture
While Hunters meets its demise, other Star Wars gaming projects continue development, including:
- Respawn's third Jedi series installment
- Bit Reactor's tactical title (set for Star Wars Celebration 2025 reveal)
The shutdown marks an unfortunate end for what was positioned as Zynga's inaugural console and PC gaming venture. The publisher remains primarily known for mobile hits like FarmVille and Words with Friends.
