Suicide Squad: Justice League Ousted as Game Company Faces Further Cuts

Rocksteady Faces Further Layoffs Following Suicide Squad's Underperformance

Rocksteady Studios, renowned for the Batman: Arkham series, has announced additional layoffs following the disappointing performance of its latest title, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The game's mixed reception and underperforming sales have already resulted in significant restructuring within the studio.

Initially, in September, Rocksteady reduced its QA team by approximately half. This latest round of job cuts, reported by Eurogamer, extends to the programming and art departments, occurring just as the studio released its final update for Suicide Squad. Several affected employees, speaking anonymously, confirmed the layoffs. Warner Bros. has yet to officially comment on this latest round of job losses, mirroring their silence following the September reductions.

The financial impact of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's underperformance is substantial for both Rocksteady and its parent company, WB Games. Warner Bros. previously acknowledged the game's failure to meet sales expectations.

The ripple effect extends beyond Rocksteady. WB Games Montreal, responsible for Batman: Arkham Origins and Gotham Knights, also experienced layoffs in December, largely affecting QA staff who supported Suicide Squad's post-launch DLC development. The final DLC, adding Deathstroke as a playable character, launched December 10th.

With one final update planned for later this month, the future of Rocksteady remains uncertain. The Suicide Squad project appears to have significantly impacted the studio, casting a shadow on its previously strong track record of critically acclaimed DC games.
