Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It's time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. You know it's one of those weeks when Shaun has to throw more than one free-to-play matching puzzle game update into the list. Don't worry, we have some cool stuff in the mix too. And you get to see Shaun kick King Robert, an activity we all enjoy. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let's dive in!
Peglin, Free
It's a rare occasion, but I'm thrilled to award the coveted UMMSotW to the first game on our list this week. Peglin's 1.0 update brings exciting new content, including the ability to challenge up to level 20 in Cruciball, a battle against a new Slime Hive mini-boss, and a plethora of tweaks, bug fixes, balance adjustments, and other enhancements. Even though Peglin didn't need much in the way of updates, I'm happy to see these improvements.
Brawl Stars, Free
Brawl time! Stars time! Dare we say… Brawl Stars time?! Yes, we dare. SpongeBob has made his splash in a new event, which is pretty cool. Two new Brawlers, Moe (Mythic) and Kenji (Legendary), are joining the fray, along with new Hypercharges for various characters. These updates will roll out over the next couple of months in the usual Brawl Stars fashion, but the SpongeBob event should start soon, if it hasn't already by the time you read this.
stitch.
What more would one expect from an update to the soothing and satisfying stitch than more Hoops to play? This time, there's a bit of a martial arts theme, although with any good puzzle game, the theme isn't as important as the new challenges it brings. So, update your app and dive into some Hoops. You'll feel better.
Genshin Impact, Free
It seems the game is now known as Genshin Impact: Natlan Launch. You've got a new region, Natlan, and three new characters to explore it with: Mualani, Kinich, and Kachina. New weapons are available too, along with plenty of new events, stories, and artifacts. Regular players know what to expect from Genshin Impact updates, and while this one is a bit larger than usual, it follows the same pattern.
Temple Run: Puzzle Adventure
Here we go with another matching puzzle game update, this time on Apple Arcade. Temple Run: Puzzle Adventure brings one hundred new levels to the table, which is quite a lot. The tournaments have also been refreshed, as usual. This update should keep many players engaged for a while, though I'm not sure it will last until the next update given how quickly players can breeze through these levels.
Jetpack Joyride 2
In this very special update to the Apple Arcade sequel to Halfbrick’s mega-hit auto-runner, Barry Steakfries escapes to the one place that hasn’t been corrupted by capitalism – SPACE! It's a shame I can't just drop that line and leave it at that, but for the sake of formatting, I'll add a bit more. Tim Curry, folks. He's a treasure. We've been graced by his many performances, big and small. Much love to Mr. Curry, who I'm 99% sure is reading this.
Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop
Moving right along, we have another matching puzzle game. However, Puyo Puyo is one of the all-time greats in its original form. This version includes new character episodes for Sig, Carbuncle, and Rafisol in Adventure Mode, with Meena added as a playable character, albeit without her own episode. Seven new music tracks, arrangements of fan favorites, are available in the shop, along with some bug fixes.
Hearthstone, Free
It's Hearthstone time! This game is usually pretty good with its update notes. Battlegrounds Season 8, Trinkets & Travels, is on its way. We're seeing the usual new content, but with a twist: the Trinket Shop replaces Buddies. You can buy Trinkets with Gold twice per game, which will impact the rest of the match. It might be tricky to balance, but that's where Hearthstone stands now.
Toon Blast, Free
The first of the two obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle game updates for this article is Toon Blast. A whole new episode brings fifty new levels to play, with some business involving bees and happiness. Bees are pretty cool, even if they can be a bit scary at times. They're important for our ecosystem, and I'd give them tiny hugs if not for the stinger. Hang in there, my bug friends. We'll get through it all together.
Royal Match, Free
I'm torn between whether I'd prefer King Robert to perish permanently or to keep perishing and returning in a perpetual cycle of pain. This update brings one hundred new levels and a new jousting arena, which sounds promising. I love that ad where they swapped King Robert for the freezing pregnant lady and her child, as if we're supposed to care about this garishly dressed monarch feeling a bit chilly. Burn your velvet robes to warm up, you decadent old ogre.
That about wraps it up for last week's significant updates. I'm sure I've missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I'll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
