How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To embark on a romantic journey with Caldarus in Fields of Mistria, you'll need to break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. To do this, you must offer four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot.

Upon completing the offering, a dramatic cutscene unfolds where the Mines Priestess warns the farmer to leave or risk being sealed with the Scroll. As your character's health depletes, Caldarus heroically intervenes, transforming into his human form. He then bestows upon you the Dragon's Breath spell and retreats to the Deep Woods. In his human guise, you can now engage with Caldarus through daily conversations and gift-giving, much like with other dateable NPCs in Mistria.

Post-Fire Seal, Caldarus resides exclusively at his temple in the Deep Woods. To access this area permanently on your map, you'll need to use the Dragon's Breath spell.

Caldarus' Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

With the March 2025 update, Caldarus begins with a heart level of six, which is currently the maximum. Unfortunately, there are no additional heart events for him yet, but future updates are expected to expand on this.

Currently, there are a couple of cutscenes featuring Caldarus. The first is a dream sequence at the game's start, introducing you to the magic system and gameplay mechanics. The second occurs after breaking the Fire Seal, where Caldarus saves you from being sealed and reveals his human form, retreating to his temple to regain strength. Both scenes progress naturally with the story.

A new feature from the March 2025 update allows you to have a real date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival, held on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival marks the end of summer in Fields of Mistria, offering a chance to take romanceable NPCs with four hearts or more on a date to the Summit to watch the stars. Given Caldarus' fixed heart level of six, you're set to go with him. To arrange your date, gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and confirm your readiness to start the event afterward. This triggers a special cutscene.

During the date at the Summit, Caldarus expresses gratitude for the invitation and shares insights into the stars and the ancient Mistrian tradition of Starbinding. Your conversation delves into deep topics about soul connections and the necessity of villains in every story. Caldarus even muses about past-life encounters with you, before feeling fatigued and inviting you to watch the stars from his temple.
