Pokemon TCG Vending Machines: A Fan's Guide

If you're a Pokemon fan with a social media presence, you've likely encountered posts about Pokemon vending machines. The Pokemon Company's expansion of these machines across the US has sparked curiosity, and we're here to provide answers.

What are Pokemon Vending Machines?

These automated machines dispense Pokemon merchandise, much like a soda machine—though the price point may differ. While various types have existed, the current US focus is on TCG-centric models initially tested in Washington in 2017. This trial's success led to broader deployment in grocery stores nationwide.

The machines are visually appealing, showcasing bright colors and clear Pokemon branding. Their design is modern, featuring a touchscreen interface instead of traditional buttons. Customers browse available TCG products, make selections, and pay via credit card. The process is enhanced by charming Pokemon animations. A digital receipt is emailed to the customer, but note that returns are not accepted.

What Merchandise Do They Sell?

US Pokemon vending machines primarily stock Pokemon TCG products, including Elite Trainer Boxes, Booster Packs, and related items. A recent visit to a Kroger location revealed a well-stocked machine, even during a busy holiday shopping period. While some newer Elite Trainer Boxes might be sold out, a selection of booster packs and older boxes are usually available. Unlike some Pokemon Center machines in Washington State (which are reportedly being phased out), these generally do not sell plushies, apparel, or video games.

Locating a Nearby Machine

A complete list of active US Pokemon TCG vending machines is available on the Pokemon Center website. Currently, machines are located in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin. The website allows users to select their state to view participating stores with machines. Distribution tends to be concentrated in major cities within each state, primarily within partner grocery stores: Albertsons, Fred Meyer, Frys, Kroger, Pick ‘n Save, Safeway, Smith’s, and Tom Thumb.

For those without a local machine, the Pokemon Center website allows users to follow the locations list for updates on new machine installations.
