Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid requires more than just finding a suitable location. Keeping the undead horde at bay is a whole different challenge. This guide focuses on a fundamental defensive measure: barricading windows.
Creating Basic Window Barricades in Project Zomboid
To effectively barricade a window, you'll need these essential items: a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you've gathered your supplies, simply right-click on the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window supports up to four planks for enhanced protection.
Locating Necessary Supplies
Hammers and nails are typically found in locations where you'd expect to find them in real life – toolboxes, garages, sheds, closets, and similar areas. Wooden planks are most commonly found at construction sites. In a pinch, you can dismantle wooden furniture (shelves, chairs, etc.) to obtain planks. Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command to spawn items directly.
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie access. The more planks used, the more time it takes for the undead to breach the defense. To remove planks, right-click on them and choose the "Remove" option. Note that you'll need a claw hammer or crowbar to do so.
Limitations and Alternatives
Larger furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) are ineffective as window barricades; both players and zombies will pass right through them. While these items can't be used defensively, knowing how to move furniture is still a useful skill for interior arrangement.
For more robust defenses, consider metal bars or sheets, but remember, sufficient Metalworking skill is required for their creation.
