The highly anticipated Amazon adaptation of the iconic video game series, God of War, is already generating significant buzz even before its premiere. Showrunner Ronald D. Moore recently revealed that the series has been greenlit for two seasons, signaling strong confidence from Amazon in the project's potential. Moore, who stepped in after the departure of previous showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, discussed his involvement in the series during an interview with Katee Sackhoff, a fellow alum from the acclaimed series Battlestar Galactica.
"Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of, there's a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they've asked me to come in," Moore shared. "So I'm literally in the writer's room, working on that. That's my new thing."

Despite not being a seasoned gamer, Moore expressed his familiarity with classic arcade games like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede. He humorously admitted to struggling with modern game controllers, saying, "'Press R1.' Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead." However, his role in the God of War series extends beyond just writing; he's also serving as an executive producer and showrunner, bringing his extensive experience from shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and the 2000s Battlestar Galactica to the project.
Although the previous creative team saw some changes, Sony's Cory Barlog, a key figure in the God of War video game franchise, remains an executive producer on the series. While details about the series are still limited, it's confirmed that the show will be based on the critically acclaimed 2018 God of War game.
Amazon's track record with video game adaptations, such as the successful renewals of the Fallout TV show and Secret Level, suggests a promising future for God of War on their streaming platform. With Moore at the helm and a dedicated team behind it, fans of the game and newcomers alike have much to look forward to.
