Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Max Level and Rank Cap Revealed

By ZoeyApr 03,2025

Assassin’s Creed Shadows stands as one of the most expansive entries in the beloved franchise, featuring a robust progression system that matches its grand scale. Let's delve into the max levels, Knowledge Ranks, and other progression mechanics that await players in this latest adventure.

What Is the Max XP Level in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, progression has been overhauled, blending traditional XP-based growth with a novel Knowledge Rank system. XP progression allows players to unlock higher-tier weapons, armor, and gear, enhancing Naoe and Yasuke’s base stats. While reaching Level 35 is sufficient to explore all of Japan's provinces, the XP journey doesn't end there. Initially, Ubisoft hinted at a Level Cap of 40, but players can actually advance up to Level 60. Moreover, with the upcoming Claws of Awaji expansion, this cap may rise even further, offering more opportunities for growth and mastery.

Knowledge Rank introduces a fresh approach to progression, distinct from XP leveling. Players earn Knowledge Points through diverse open-world activities focused on mindfulness and training. As you ascend through the Knowledge Ranks, new skills become available for Naoe and Yasuke, though these must be unlocked with Mastery Points. Reaching Knowledge Rank 6 unlocks all initial skills, but the journey doesn't end there. After hitting this milestone, a new Knowledge tree emerges, offering additional passive skills to tailor your playstyle further.

Is There a Cap for Mastery in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Mastery, akin to skill points, is the third pillar of progression in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Players must allocate Mastery Points to unlock skills within six Mastery trees for each protagonist. While some skills demand more Mastery to unlock, the game provides ample opportunities to earn these points through various activities. Although there's a theoretical limit to Mastery Points, reaching it requires extensive engagement with the game. The Claws of Awaji expansion, set to release later in 2025, will likely introduce new ways to earn Mastery, ensuring continued progression.

Does Assassin’s Creed Shadows Have Level Scaling?

In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, each of Japan's provinces comes with its own level requirement, with Kii starting at Level 35. As players level up, so do the regions, ensuring that challenges scale appropriately with your progress. However, there's a cap to this scaling. Beyond Level 40, and particularly from Level 42 onward, the recommended level for each province remains two levels below your current XP level. This system strikes a balance, maintaining a challenge while rewarding dedicated players who invest significant time into the game.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is now available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, offering players a deep and engaging journey through feudal Japan.
