Recent Windows 11 Update Disrupts Assassin's Creed Gameplay; Patches Released for Origins and Valhalla
Following a recent Windows 11 update (24H2), several Assassin's Creed players encountered issues launching and playing two titles in the franchise. Fortunately, Ubisoft has swiftly responded with patches for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, resolving the problems for these two games. However, challenges persist for some Ubisoft titles.
The Windows 11 24H2 update, while introducing beneficial features such as Wi-Fi 7 support and AI Copilot+ PC enhancements, inadvertently caused game compatibility issues. These issues manifested as game crashes or unresponsiveness. The newly released updates for Origins (230 MB) and Valhalla (500 MB) should be automatically downloaded via Steam, restoring functionality.
Ongoing Issues and Ubisoft's Response
While the patches for Origins and Valhalla are a welcome resolution, reports indicate that other Ubisoft games, notably Assassin's Creed Odyssey, remain affected. While previous fixes addressed major problems in titles like Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, some performance issues may still exist. Players experiencing problems with Odyssey are advised to wait for a dedicated patch before updating to Windows 11 24H2.
The unforeseen compatibility problems highlight a potential oversight in Microsoft's testing process. Reports of issues surfaced five months before the official 24H2 rollout, suggesting that the problem could have been addressed earlier. This is particularly concerning given Microsoft's encouragement for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. Despite this, the majority of games appear unaffected by the update.
