Bandai Namco to End PAC-MAN Mobile Service

Bandai Namco has made the surprising announcement of shutting down PAC-MAN Mobile, a move that feels particularly ironic as the iconic character celebrates its 45th anniversary this year. This beloved version of the game, which was launched over a decade ago and previously known as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, offered players much more than the classic arcade experience.

When Is the PAC-MAN Mobile Shutdown?

The official shutdown date for PAC-MAN Mobile is set for May 30th, 2025. In-app purchases have been discontinued since April 1st. If you're among the dedicated players still enjoying the game, you can continue playing until the final day on May 30th.

Many fans have voiced their disappointment over Bandai Namco's decision to completely shut down the game rather than transitioning it to an offline mode. Such a move could have kept the game alive while still generating some revenue for the developers.

PAC-MAN Mobile not only retained the iconic 8-bit arcade mode but also introduced a rich Story Mode with numerous original mazes to navigate. Additionally, the game featured an Adventure Mode with limited-time themed events offering exclusive skins, and a Tournament Mode with weekly maze challenges across three difficulty levels. Players could customize not just PAC-MAN and the ghosts, but also the joystick and more with a variety of skins.

The Reason

The decision to shut down the game likely stems from the accumulation of bugs and issues that have plagued the game for the past few years. Despite a strong start and the initial excitement around leaderboard competitions on Android, the ongoing technical problems may have been too significant to overcome.

If you're eager to enjoy PAC-MAN Mobile one last time before its shutdown, you can still download it from the Google Play Store.
