In Citizen Sleeper 2, you begin by choosing from three classes: Operator, Machinist, or Extractor. Here’s a breakdown to help you decide.
Which Class Fits Your Style in Citizen Sleeper 2?
Your ideal class depends on your preferred gameplay approach. Having completed the game, I’ve analyzed the Operator, Machinist, and Extractor classes, focusing on their abilities and role-playing appeal.
Operator

The Operator starts with a bonus in Interface, standard levels in Intuit and Engage, and no Engineer skill. They cannot improve Endure. Their ability lets them gain Stress to re-roll their lowest dice, offering a chance to improve outcomes.
The Operator is solid but not my top pick. As you enhance their skills, they become more effective, but early-game challenges can feel tough. Interface is a reliable skill, making this class viable if you can navigate initial hurdles. However, re-rolling dice doesn’t always guarantee better results, which can be frustrating.
For role-playing, the Operator is versatile, allowing you to shape a character that fits various narrative styles.
Machinist

The Machinist begins with a bonus in Engineer, standard Interface and Intuit levels, and no Endure skill. They cannot level up Engage. Their ability grants +2 to their lowest dice at the cost of Stress, and they lose 2 Stress on positive outcomes. As Citizen Sleeper 2 advances, they can further boost dice and reduce Stress.
The Machinist was my choice for my first playthrough and stood out as the best. Their ability is highly effective for escaping tough spots, especially with frequent Engineer and Interface checks where crew support is often limited. The Stress reduction ability is a major plus, as managing Stress is one of the game’s trickiest mechanics.
Role-play enthusiasts who enjoy diving into the technical and mechanical aspects of the game’s universe will find the Machinist a perfect fit.
Extractor

The Extractor starts with a bonus in Endure, standard levels in Engineer and Engage, and no Interface skill. They cannot improve Intuit. Their ability adds +2 to the lowest dice of their crew at the cost of Stress, with upgrades enhancing crew performance as the game progresses.
The Extractor’s ability is a standout, making crew management during Contracts less risky. The Endure bonus is valuable, as many tasks require it. However, later in the game, I found many crew members also had Endure and Engage, which slightly reduced the class’s unique edge.
For role-playing, the Extractor suits players who prefer a rugged, tough character archetype in Citizen Sleeper 2.
This guide covers everything you need to choose your class in Citizen Sleeper 2.
