Main quests in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2* can be tricky, especially when you're sneaking around unfamiliar areas against the clock. This guide walks you through "For Whom the Bell Tolls," a mission where timing is everything.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2: For Whom the Bell Tolls Walkthrough
The "For Whom the Bell Tolls" quest begins after completing "Wedding Crashers." Hans is imprisoned in Trosky and faces execution once the bell tolls twelve times. Your task? Save him. Luckily, you're spared a similar fate, assigned instead to menial labor around the castle—a fortunate stroke of luck that provides a window of opportunity.
Hauling Sacks

Helping the Blacksmith

Helping Fanka the Cook
Screenshot by The EscapistRetrieve a lockpick from the red pot on the shelves near the forge. Speak with Fanka, the cook, to gain access to the noble's kitchen. While optional, lockpicking her door improves your reputation and unlocks future kitchen access.
Speaking with the Chamberlain
Screenshot by The EscapistThe ailing chamberlain is in the kitchen. Attempt to persuade him to allow you to brew a Digestive Potion; success grants access to the surgeon's workshop. Otherwise, prepare to sneak in.
Making Fever Tonicum
Screenshot by The EscapistIf you failed to convince the chamberlain, use kitchen food to distract the guard and sneak into the workshop. Otherwise, proceed directly. The surgeon's workshop is through the double doors in the hall, upstairs from the forge. Create Fever Tonicum (and a Digestive Potion if you convinced the chamberlain). Sufficient ingredients are in the room's chest.
Curing Thomas
Screenshot by The EscapistIf you helped the chamberlain, deliver the Digestive Potion and gain access to Thomas' room. If sneaking, take the stairs from the noble's kitchen, using pebbles to distract guards, to reach Thomas' room. Give Adele the Fever Tonicum to trigger the cutscene and complete the quest.
Successfully treating Thomas before the twelfth bell tolls rewards you with reputation points, but a successful outcome is guaranteed regardless of timing.
