Dynasty Warriors: Origins Battle of Hulao Gate Guide

The Battle of Hulao Gate is the final stage of Chapter 2 in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*, with the ultimate goal being the defeat of Dong Zhuo. Reaching him is no small feat and will likely be the longest mission you've faced so far.

As the mission kicks off, start by navigating the four enemy bases located at the bottom right of the map. After capturing two of these, a cutscene will trigger, showing a mounted cavalry emerging from a hill and advancing toward your position. Don't let this distract you from your main objective. As you progress from base to base, you'll naturally encounter and defeat this cavalry. If you manage to take down their commander, Zhang Liao, you'll unlock the twin pike weapon, a valuable addition to your arsenal.

Once all bases are under your control, you're ready to launch an assault on Hulao Gate, leading to your first significant confrontation with Dong Zhuo's forces. The battle will be chaotic, but your primary focus should be to protect Cao Cao until he executes his Grand Tactic. Once activated, Cao Cao's strategy will weaken the defenses, allowing you to advance further toward the gate.

Lu Bu Appears

At this stage, Dong Zhuo will dispatch Lu Bu to the frontline. It's crucial not to engage Lu Bu directly, as a one-on-one fight with him is nearly impossible to win and will lead to your swift defeat. Instead, keep your distance and focus on eliminating enemy officers at the periphery to maintain your morale, which Lu Bu's presence will significantly deplete.

Eventually, Lu Bu will move to attack your main base and target Yuan Shao. Although it might be tempting to intervene, remember a key strategy in *Dynasty Warriors* games – avoid confronting Lu Bu. Liu Bei and his forces will try to hold him back, buying you precious time to focus on defeating Dong Zhuo. This sets up a time-sensitive scenario for the mission's remainder. Liu Bei's forces can only delay Lu Bu for so long; once you're notified of their retreat, ensure you're on the verge of defeating Dong Zhuo, or Lu Bu will overwhelm Yuan Shao, resulting in mission failure.

Go After Dong Zhuo

With Lu Bu out of the way, if you need to replenish your health with meat buns, quickly visit one of your conquered bases. Then, return to the gate. While Cao Cao prepares for a charge, you should secure the northern and western bases. Once you have three squads ready and are fully healed, enter the nearest commander's circle and initiate the assault.

You'll face a massive army, and Dong Zhuo will deploy his Grand Tactic, hurling fireballs at you. To counteract this, destroy the front two catapults. If available, activate Musou Rage to break through the wall of soldiers guarding the catapults. Focus on clearing the surrounding soldiers and officers to pave the way for your troops to demolish the catapults and end Dong Zhuo's tactic.

As you advance, Dong Zhuo will launch another Grand Tactic, this time requiring you to defeat one of his officers to stop it. Take the right stairs to confront the officer, but be prepared for an ambush by Diaochan, who has sided with Dong Zhuo. If possible, challenge her to a duel; defeating her will prevent being overwhelmed by fighting both her and the officer simultaneously.

With the second Grand Tactic neutralized, the path to Dong Zhuo should be clear. By this point, your forces should have sufficient morale to overpower Dong Zhuo's remaining troops. Lu Bu should still be engaged with Liu Bei's forces, and Dian Wei might initiate another Grand Tactic, further easing your path to victory. Instead of dueling Dong Zhuo, simply defeat him in regular combat, as he and his forces will be significantly weakened by now.

And that's how you conquer the Battle of Hulao Gate in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*! The game is now available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
