According to a report by Deadline, the previously shelved Warner Bros. film, Coyote vs. Acme, might still hit the screens thanks to ongoing negotiations with Los Angeles-based independent film company, Ketchup Entertainment. Although the deal is not finalized, a successful negotiation could lead to a theatrical release in 2026.
Coyote vs. Acme, announced in 2022, draws its inspiration from a 1990 Ian Frazier article in The New Yorker. The film, co-written by James Gunn and featuring Will Forte and John Cena, was initially slated for a mid-2023 release on Max. However, despite completing filming, it was shelved, sparking a dedicated campaign to save it.
Ketchup Entertainment has a track record of rescuing films from oblivion, as seen with their recent acquisition of Warner Bros.' The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie. This film, the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie to receive a theatrical release, was saved from cancellation and praised by IGN as a "laugh-out-loud riot."
Ketchup Entertainment's portfolio also includes Hellboy: The Crooked Man and the Robert Rodriguez thriller Hypnotic, starring Ben Affleck. Additionally, they co-produced Michael Mann's 2023 Ferrari biopic, showcasing their commitment to bringing diverse and engaging films to audiences.
