Cyberpunk 2077's development history includes an ambitious, scrapped DLC set on the Moon. Data miner SirMZK unearthed compelling evidence from the game's code, revealing CD Projekt RED's original vision for this cosmic expansion.
Leaked files contain references to lunar surface maps, distinct zones such as an "Exterior Movie Set" and a "Drug Lab," and even a rover model. The planned Moon location was enormous, potentially a quarter the size of Night City, offering a fully explorable open-world environment. This would have dramatically expanded gameplay, transporting players far beyond the familiar neon-drenched streets.
A key element was the "Crystal Palace," an elite space station. While absent from the final game, a glimpse of the Crystal Palace can be seen in one ending sequence, visible through a spaceship window. Further evidence suggests a prototype zero-gravity bar and a cut quest, "201," linked to the Arasaka storyline.
Hope remains that these concepts might reappear in CD Projekt RED's upcoming project, "Orion," which is expected to broaden the Cyberpunk universe. However, the studio has yet to officially confirm the reuse of any of this scrapped content.
Despite remaining unrealized, the discovered details offer a captivating glimpse into what could have been: a daring expansion of Cyberpunk 2077 into the vastness of space, seamlessly blending space exploration with the game's signature cyberpunk style.
