Far Cry 4 Hits 60fps on PlayStation 5

By NoahDec 17,2025

Eleven years after its initial release, Far Cry 4 now operates at a smooth 60 frames per second (fps) on the PlayStation 5.

As first noted by gael_74 and shared on the Far Cry 4 subreddit, the game's update history confirms that Version 1.08 added "support for 60 FPS on PS5 consoles."

If you haven't experienced it yet, now is an excellent opportunity to dive into Far Cry 4. The game features one of the franchise's most memorable villains, Pagan Min, and immerses you in a vibrant, expansive open world. The towering Himalayan landscape isn't merely a scenic backdrop but a dynamic environment that inspires combat, hunting, and exploration.

In IGN's "great" 8.5/10 Far Cry 4 review, we noted: "While Far Cry 4 has some underdeveloped characters, its campaign, co-op, and competitive multiplayer modes offer incredibly fun and open-ended gameplay."

Far Cry 4 is the most recent in a series of PS4-era Ubisoft titles to receive a post-launch performance boost, following games like Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Assassin's Creed Origins. This development has naturally sparked excitement among Far Cry enthusiasts on the subreddit, who are now hoping that other beloved entries in the series, such as Far Cry Primal and Far Cry 3, will soon receive the same 60 fps enhancement.

Unfortunately, the update's timing was less than ideal for some players. One unfortunate gamer expressed their frustration, saying: "You've got to be kidding me. I just earned the platinum trophy for this game three days ago."

Last month, Ubisoft established a new subsidiary focused on its Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six brands, backed by a €1.16 billion (approximately $1.25 billion) investment from the Chinese conglomerate Tencent.

This announcement followed the news that Assassin's Creed Shadows had already attracted over 3 million players. The run-up to Shadows' release was marked by several high-profile failures, staff reductions, studio shutdowns, and project cancellations for Ubisoft, placing immense pressure on the new title to succeed after the company's stock value hit a record low.

Earlier today, Ubisoft also discreetly introduced Steam Achievements to the 12-year-old title Splinter Cell: Blacklist.
