The New Denpa Men is returning to mobile devices! This quirky creature-collecting RPG, a 3DS favorite that later graced the Nintendo Switch, is set for a mobile comeback on March 10th. A global release is a strong possibility, given Nintendo's recent mobile expansion.
According to Gematsu, the iOS and Android launch will include the original game's augmented reality features, utilizing the device's camera. For the uninitiated, The New Denpa Men is an AR-based RPG where players collect Denpa Men—creatures dwelling on radio waves—from the real world, then battle them in dungeons.
While not a household name like Mario or Zelda, the Denpa Men franchise boasts a history on Nintendo platforms. Developer Genius Sonority previously released the original New Denpa Men on mobile before its Switch remaster. This upcoming release, therefore, marks a re-release of a mobile game that was itself a Switch remaster—a somewhat convoluted history!
Interestingly, the original New Denpa Men was Japan-only, whereas the Switch version enjoyed a global launch. This new mobile iteration could finally bring the quirky RPG to a worldwide audience.
