Elon Musk's admitted cheating in Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2 has sparked controversy, with fans questioning the integrity of the games and demanding action from developers Blizzard Entertainment and Grinding Gear Games.
Screenshots of a private conversation revealed Musk's admission to paying for account boosting, a violation of both games' terms of service. Account boosting involves paying another player to level up one's account, granting an unfair advantage. Blizzard's EULA explicitly prohibits this practice.
Following the revelation, both developers have remained silent regarding potential account bans for Musk. This silence has fueled outrage within the gaming communities. Players on the official Path of Exile forums and Battle.net expressed disappointment and concern that a billionaire could seemingly circumvent the rules. They argue that this undermines fair play and the integrity of the game's competitive aspects.

When contacted by IGN, both Grinding Gear Games and Blizzard declined to comment on individual player accounts or enforcement actions.
Musk's previous boasts about his gaming skills, including claims of being a top Diablo 4 player, have now come under scrutiny. His busy schedule as CEO of multiple companies raised questions about the time commitment needed to achieve such high levels legitimately. A livestream in early January further fueled suspicion, as Musk appeared to lack a fundamental understanding of Path of Exile 2 mechanics.
The controversy escalated when a video surfaced showing a direct message exchange between Musk and YouTuber NikoWrex. Musk admitted to account boosting, claiming it was necessary to compete with Asian players. He clarified that his streaming gameplay was genuine, but his high-level character achievements were not solely his own.
Musk's ex-partner, Grimes, attempted to defend him, citing personal observations of his gaming skills in other games. However, further allegations surfaced when Musk's Path of Exile 2 character was reportedly active while he was in Washington D.C. for Trump's inauguration. The lack of response from the game developers has left many players feeling that the integrity of their games has been compromised.
