Digimon Con Unveils New Project: Digital TCG on the Horizon?

By EthanApr 24,2025

For fans of the iconic Digimon franchise, the upcoming Digimon Con 2025 promises to be a landmark event. Attendees can anticipate a plethora of exciting announcements and updates on upcoming projects. However, one particular teaser has captured our attention, featuring a puzzled Renamon alongside a mobile phone. This intriguing image suggests the possibility of a new development in the Digimon Trading Card Game (TCG) space, potentially involving mobile technology.

The obvious speculation is that this could signal the launch of a digital version of the Digimon TCG. Bandai Namco already offers a tutorial app for iOS and Android, similar to their other physical trading card games. Given the recent success of Pokémon TCG Pocket, it wouldn't be surprising to see Digimon follow suit with a mobile-friendly TCG.

However, it's wise to temper our expectations slightly. The teaser might merely indicate that mobile devices are a way to watch the upcoming livestream, rather than hinting at a new mobile platform for the TCG itself.

Going Digital
It's no secret that while Digimon enjoys a dedicated fanbase, it often finds itself in the shadow of Pokémon. The late '90s and 2000s saw a friendly rivalry between the two, but Pokémon has since claimed the global pop culture throne. Yet, Digimon holds a special place in the hearts of nostalgic anime enthusiasts.

Launching a digital TCG wouldn't guarantee instant success, as it might for Pokémon. However, it's not a high-risk move either. The Digimon TCG remains popular, and expanding its reach to more players via a digital platform could be a significant achievement. We'll have to tune into the Digimon Con livestream later this month to uncover the full details.
