According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kitao Sakurai, known for his work on the wildly comedic The Eric Andre Show, will helm the upcoming film adaptation for Legendary Entertainment. Capcom, the game's creator, is deeply involved in the project, which is slated for release on March 20, 2026.
This isn't the first time Street Fighter has been adapted for cinema. Fans might recall the 1994 film featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile, Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li, and the late Raul Julia as M. Bison—a movie that, despite mixed reviews, has become a cult classic.
While casting details remain under wraps, fans can expect to see beloved Street Fighter characters make an appearance. Initially, the film was set to be directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, known for Talk to Me, but they left the project last summer. Sakurai's involvement suggests that Legendary might be steering the film toward a more absurdist tone, which could be a thrilling match for the game's often over-the-top style.
