While eagerly awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, fans are revisiting the classic DOOM games. Good news! The developers have resumed work, recently releasing an update for the DOOM + DOOM 2 compilation.
This update significantly enhances the games' technical performance and adds much more. Crucially, it introduces multiplayer mod support. Mods created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM are compatible. Cooperative gameplay now allows all players to collect items simultaneously. A new observer mode has been added for players who die in cooperative mode while awaiting revival. Multiplayer network code has also been optimized. Finally, the mod loader can now handle more than the initial 100+ subscribed mods.
Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a core focus. The game will offer far more customization options than previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasizes the team's commitment to broad accessibility.
Players will have extensive control over various aspects, including enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed and damage, and even broader game mechanics like tempo, enemy aggression, and parry timing. Stratton also confirmed that prior experience with DOOM: The Dark Ages isn't necessary to understand the narratives in both DOOM: The Dark Ages and DOOM: Eternal.
