Dynasty Warriors: Origins Rises from the Ashes of a Canceled Predecessor
The upcoming release of Dynasty Warriors: Origins on January 17, 2025, marks a significant moment for the franchise, born from the ashes of its predecessor, the canceled Dynasty Warriors 10. This decision, driven by technological advancements, ultimately shaped Origins into a more strategically refined and modern experience.
Initially conceived as a traditional stage-clearing title reminiscent of Dynasty Warriors 7, the development team at Omega Force scrapped Dynasty Warriors 10 after witnessing the capabilities of the PlayStation 5 and other next-gen consoles. The potential unlocked by these advancements prompted a strategic shift, leading to the creation of Origins.
Producer Tomohiko Sho highlighted the impact of modern hardware, stating that the team's vision evolved significantly after experiencing the power of current-generation consoles. While abandoning Dynasty Warriors 10 proved challenging, key elements were salvaged and integrated into Origins.
Producer Masamichi Oba revealed that the free-roaming map initially planned for the canceled title found its way into Origins, alongside a more immersive narrative exploring the Three Kingdoms Era. This integration of elements from the abandoned project showcases the team's commitment to utilizing their previous work to enhance the final product. Origins retains the series' signature hack-and-slash combat, but with a modernized approach and strategic depth. Players will assume the role of an amnesiac protagonist, interacting with iconic figures from the Three Kingdoms period. Deluxe Edition owners have already experienced the fast-paced action, while the rest of the world eagerly awaits its official launch.
