Fallout Developers Express Enthusiasm for a New Entry, But With a Condition
Several key figures in the Fallout franchise, including director Josh Sawyer, have voiced their willingness to contribute to a new Fallout game. However, a crucial caveat emerges: creative freedom is paramount.
The Need for Novelty
In a recent YouTube Q&A, Sawyer emphasized the importance of innovative elements. He stated that his participation hinges on the project's scope and the creative constraints imposed. He highlighted the unappealing nature of working on a project that restricts exploration of new ideas. This sentiment is echoed by other developers.
Fallout co-creators Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky similarly expressed their interest in a Fallout remaster (specifically Fallout: New Vegas), but only if it provides opportunities for fresh creative approaches. Cain explicitly stated that the allure of a new Fallout project depends entirely on its novelty. He emphasized that the driving force behind his involvement in past RPGs was always the chance to explore uncharted creative territory.
Obsidian's Perspective
Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart also expressed a desire to work on another Fallout title, given the opportunity. However, as of January 2023, he confirmed that no such project was underway, citing Obsidian's busy schedule with Avowed, Grounded, and Outer Worlds 2. While he expressed hope for a future Fallout project before his retirement, he acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding such a possibility.

In essence, the prospect of a new Fallout game from key developers rests on the promise of a fresh, innovative direction, rather than a simple reiteration of past successes.
