Final Fantasy XVI director, Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P), has politely requested fans to avoid creating or installing "offensive or inappropriate" modifications for the PC release.
Final Fantasy XVI's PC Launch: September 17th
Yoshi-P's Plea for Responsible Modding
In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Yoshida addressed the upcoming PC release and urged players to maintain respectful modding practices. While declining to specify examples, he emphasized the team's desire to prevent the creation and distribution of offensive or inappropriate content.
The request stemmed from a question about potentially humorous mods. Yoshida's response clarified the team's priorities: "If we said 'It'd be great if someone made xyz,' it might come across as a request, so I'll avoid mentioning any specifics here! The only thing I will say is that we definitely don't want to say anything offensive or inappropriate, so please don't make or install anything like that."
Yoshida's experience with previous Final Fantasy titles likely exposed him to a range of mods, some falling into the "inappropriate" or "offensive" categories. While many mods enhance visuals or add cosmetic elements (like the Half-Life costume mod for FFXV), others contain NSFW content. Although Yoshida didn't explicitly define the types of mods he's referencing, mods featuring explicit content, such as those replacing character models with nude meshes, clearly fall under this umbrella.
Final Fantasy XVI's PC version boasts features like a 240fps frame rate cap and various upscaling technologies. Yoshida's request aims to ensure the PC community maintains a respectful environment alongside these technical advancements.
