Firaxis Games has unveiled a virtual reality edition of the recently launched Civilization VII.

Sid Meier's Civilization VII - VR marks the franchise's first venture into VR, launching Spring 2025 exclusively on Meta Quest 3 and 3S headsets. Developed by PlaySide Studios (known for The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners and Meta Horizon Worlds), the game is published by 2K Games.

Here's the official description:

Civilization VII - VR brings the world of Civilization to life as never before. The game unfolds on a Command Table, allowing players to zoom in for detailed views of units and buildings or zoom out for a strategic overview. Players interact directly with iconic world leaders, forging alliances or declaring war across the ages.

The game supports both immersive VR and mixed reality modes, seamlessly switching between them. In VR, players are situated in a museum overlooking a personalized vista; in mixed reality, the Command Table adapts to the player's physical space. Detailed dioramas showcasing gameplay achievements are viewable in The Archives, accessible in both VR and mixed reality. Online multiplayer allows up to four Meta Quest 3/3S players to compete for global domination.

The PC and console versions of Civilization VII, currently available via early access, have received mixed player feedback on Steam, citing UI issues, limited map variety, and missing features.

Firaxis has acknowledged this feedback, promising UI improvements, the addition of team-based multiplayer, expanded map types, and other enhancements.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, in an interview with IGN, addressed the negative reviews, expressing confidence that the core Civilization fanbase will embrace the game with continued play and describing its early performance as "very encouraging."
