Housemarque Unveils Saros, a New Roguelite Shooter for PS5
Housemarque, the studio behind the acclaimed roguelite shooter Returnal, has announced its next project: Saros. Starring Rahul Kohli, Saros is slated for a 2026 release on PlayStation 5, with enhanced features for the PS5 Pro.
Unveiled during the recent PlayStation State of Play, Saros retains the signature Housemarque style. Players take on the role of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer investigating a perilous, ever-changing planet shrouded in eclipse and menaced by formidable entities. The game's emphasis on "coming back stronger" and its fiery, bullet-hell-inspired action strongly echo the Returnal experience.
Creative director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-focused design philosophy. While a new single-player IP, it builds upon the third-person action established in Returnal.
However, significant gameplay differences exist. According to Louden's PlayStation Blog post, Saros introduces persistent resources and progression. While the game world shifts upon player death, players will retain and upgrade their weapons and suits permanently.
