Insider Hints at Mystery Xbox Game Getting Announced on January 23

Xbox's upcoming Developer Direct will unveil four games, with the identity of the fourth remaining a secret. Hints suggest it's a new installment in a renowned Japanese franchise with a long history.

Next week's Developer Direct, Xbox's third annual showcase, continues the tradition begun in January 2023. The event provides a platform for developers to directly engage with Xbox fans, showcasing upcoming titles. The inaugural event memorably concluded with the surprise release of Tango Gameworks' Hi-Fi Rush. Last year's Direct featured Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and a segment from Square Enix showcasing Visions of Mana.

This year's Direct, airing January 23rd, will feature Doom: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The mystery fourth game, however, is shrouded in secrecy. Speculation among fans includes titles like Fable, The Outer Worlds 2, and Gears of War: E-Day.

Industry insider Jez Corden, in a Windows Central article, offers a clue: the game is a "new entry in a legendary Japanese IP with decades of history," suggesting it's not from an Xbox first-party studio.

Potential candidates include established franchises. While Square Enix's presence at last year's event might suggest a new Final Fantasy title, current partnerships and recent releases make this unlikely. Capcom's Resident Evil, particularly Resident Evil 9, is a strong contender, despite the franchise's association with PlayStation events. Sega's Persona 6, rumored for a 2025 release, and a potential Ninja Gaiden revival from Team Ninja, given the franchise's history with Xbox, are also plausible possibilities.

Ultimately, the identity of the fourth game remains unknown. Viewers are encouraged to tune in to the Xbox Developer Direct on Thursday, January 23rd, to witness the reveal.
