Intergalactic is on fire. After two weeks, criticism of Naughty Dog's trailer has not subsided

The reveal of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet at The Game Awards immediately captured public attention, but the initial enthusiasm quickly turned sour. A wave of criticism erupted, primarily targeting the game's protagonist and thematic elements, which some viewers felt promoted a specific "agenda."

Neil Druckmann and Tati Gabriel's attempts to defend the game and quell the controversy only served to inflame the situation.

Even seventeen days later, the backlash shows no signs of abating. The announcement trailer proved highly divisive, garnering a significant number of dislikes on YouTube. On the official PlayStation channel, dislikes surpassed 260,000, dwarfing the 90,000 likes. The Naughty Dog channel fared no better, with over 170,000 dislikes outweighing the 70,000 likes. Comment sections were disabled in an effort to contain the escalating negativity, but the debate continues to rage across social media platforms.

However, the future of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet remains uncertain. Naughty Dog has a history of transforming initial criticism into triumph, and the game still has the potential to defy expectations.

This incident underscores a significant challenge for large game studios: navigating the increasingly demanding expectations of their audience.
