After a clever investigation alongside Kai and Marius in Paradis, the Untimely End quest reveals Ygwulf as your assassin. A member of the Paradisan Rebels, he's a key figure in their resistance against Aedyr's influence. As the Emperor's Envoy, you're a prime target.
Tracking Ygwulf and his rebels to their underground hideout requires navigating a challenging dungeon filled with enemies and platforming sections. Stock up on health potions and equip your best gear before venturing in.
Within this dungeon, documents reveal Ygwulf's motivations and his growing remorse. Initially believing the Gods commanded him to kill the Envoy, he later grapples with his actions and expresses regret. Even without finding these documents, his remorse is evident during your confrontation. He's apologetic but prepared to face the consequences.
What Happens If You Spare Ygwulf or He Turns Himself In?
Letting Ygwulf turn himself in to the Inquisitor of the Steel Garrote is the least desirable outcome. He faces Lödwyn's brutal justice, a fate far worse than death by your hand. This option also yields fewer rewards than sparing him or killing him.
Sparing Ygwulf earns you 625 Copper Skeyt and some Adra, a modest reward. However, despite your mercy, his death is inevitable later in the story.
Why You Should Kill Ygwulf in Avowed
Given his eventual demise, attacking Ygwulf is the optimal choice. This encounter provides valuable combat practice, and killing him yields the best loot.
Defeating Ygwulf rewards you with currency, Adra, and the unique Blackwing armor. This armor offers a significant +30% damage boost from stealth and a 25% movement speed buff while crouching, enhancing stealth capabilities.
Does Ygwulf’s Fate Affect the Story? SPOILER WARNING
Despite being an early encounter, Ygwulf's fate subtly impacts Avowed's ending. After the final gameplay section, the epilogue showcases the consequences of your choices in Eora's Living Lands.
Regardless of your efforts to bring peace, Ygwulf's death radicalizes the Paradisan Rebellion, ensuring their continued resistance even after the credits roll.
