Long-Awaited Warhammer 40,000 Animation Astartes 2 Is Back From the Dead With Incredible Teaser Trailer — but There’s a Catch

By CarterFeb 18,2025

Games Workshop's highly anticipated Warhammer 40,000 animation, Astartes 2, has resurfaced with a stunning teaser trailer, captivating fans. However, a crucial detail emerges: the trailer showcases footage not featured in the actual animation.

Astartes 2 follows the immensely popular fan-made original by Syama Pedersen, widely considered the best Warhammer 40,000 animation. Its success even influenced Saber Interactive's Space Marine 2, leading Games Workshop to hire Pedersen for the sequel.

After years of silence, the teaser trailer dropped, generating significant excitement. It depicts epic-scale battles, featuring melee combat, ranged firefights, vehicle engagements, and even spaceship clashes. Various Space Marine chapters face off against Tyranids, Orks, and Tau across diverse environments.

The Warhammer Community website clarified that the trailer is a compilation of shots representing the characters' pasts, hinting at the overarching narrative. The final image suggests the characters' eventual inclusion in an Inquisition-led Deathwatch Terminator squad.

While the teaser is visually impressive, its misleading nature is a concern. The lack of a disclaimer might lead viewers to expect the depicted content in the final animation, especially those who don't access the Warhammer Community post.

Despite this, the teaser fuels speculation and excitement. Space Marine 2 fans, in particular, are expressing envy, hoping for some of the trailer's elements, such as capes, to be incorporated into the game. Given Saber Interactive's ongoing updates, this possibility remains open. Astartes 2 is slated for release in 2026 exclusively on Games Workshop's Warhammer+ streaming service.
