Marvel Rivals Developer Is 'Open' to Potential Future Release on Nintendo Switch 2

By ScarlettApr 02,2025

The widely popular hero shooter Marvel Rivals is enjoying immense success on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. However, its developer NetEase has been clear that it won't be coming to the current Nintendo Switch, much to the disappointment of Nintendo fans. But what about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2?

We had the chance to ask Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu about this possibility at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas. Excitingly for Switch enthusiasts, a Switch 2 release seems to be on the table.

Wu stated, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason we didn't launch on the original Switch was because it couldn't provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if the Switch 2 can achieve that goal, we're open to it."

PlayThe Nintendo Switch 2 was officially announced last month. While specifics about its capabilities are still under wraps, it's expected to be a more powerful version of the original Switch. One intriguing feature is the potential for mouse-like controller functionality, which could enhance the experience of playing shooters like Marvel Rivals, making it more akin to a PC experience. However, the exact implementation of this feature remains to be seen.

The Nintendo Switch 2 doesn't have a confirmed release date yet, but a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2. Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms and has received positive feedback. In our 8/10 review, we praised it for "following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so, Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." The latest heroes to join the game, The Human Torch and The Thing, will be available starting February 21.
