Microsoft Unveils and Retracts Xbox UI Mockup with Steam Games Tab

Microsoft has inadvertently revealed what appears to be an upcoming Xbox UI update that could allow players to view all their PC games installed via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and other platforms. This surprising feature was prematurely showcased in a blog post titled "Opening a Billion Doors with Xbox," which was spotted by The Verge. The post featured an image of Xbox Series X | S consoles alongside various devices, with some screens displaying a "Steam" tab.

Although subtle, the inclusion of Steam in an Xbox UI image is significant, as Valve's digital PC storefront typically does not integrate with Microsoft's gaming hardware in such a manner. The image has since been removed from the post, indicating that the reveal was unintentional.

According to The Verge's sources, Microsoft is working on an update that will not only connect users to their Steam libraries but also to other PC storefronts. This would enable players to view all their installed PC games and identify the platforms from which they were purchased. However, this feature is still in the early stages of development, and a rollout is not expected anytime soon.

Xbox Games Series Tier List

The mention of Steam in an official Xbox UI update mockup, even if unintentional, is noteworthy. Over the past decade, Microsoft has increasingly brought its titles to PC and other platforms, including Pentiment and Grounded on PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. There are also ongoing rumors about the Master Chief Collection potentially coming to PlayStation.

Microsoft's efforts to blend Xbox and PC gaming have been evident for years. The "This is an Xbox" campaign, launched recently, showcases the variety of devices on which players can enjoy Xbox games. In an interview with Polygon, Xbox head Phil Spencer hinted at a future where PC stores like Itch.io and the Epic Games Store might be accessible directly on Xbox hardware.

Moreover, Microsoft's rumored next-generation Xbox, expected in 2027, is said to be more akin to a PC than any previous Xbox model, further blurring the lines between console and PC gaming.
