The latest installment in Capcom's iconic series has shattered records, achieving an unprecedented milestone just 30 minutes after its release on Steam. Monster Hunter Wilds saw concurrent player numbers soar past 675,000, quickly climbing to over 1 million. This not only marks the most successful launch in the history of the Monster Hunter series but also sets a new high for all of Capcom's games. Previously, Monster Hunter: World (2018) held the record with 334,000 active players, while Monster Hunter Rise (2022) secured third place with 230,000. Despite these impressive figures, Monster Hunter Wilds encountered a backlash on Steam due to technical glitches, including bugs and frequent crashes.
Monster Hunter Wilds offers a fresh standalone storyline, making it an excellent starting point for newcomers to the series. Set in a world teeming with dangerous creatures, players take on the role of a protagonist tasked with unraveling the secrets of the Forbidden Lands. Among the myriad challenges, players will confront the legendary "White Ghost"—a mythical beast—and interact with mysterious Guardians, who enrich the narrative with their enigmatic presence.
Prior to its launch, Monster Hunter Wilds garnered mostly positive reviews. Some critics, however, pointed out that Capcom streamlined the gameplay mechanics in an effort to appeal to a wider audience. Despite this, many players and reviewers praise these adjustments, noting that they enhance the game's accessibility while maintaining its depth and quality.
Monster Hunter Wilds is now available on modern consoles including the PS5 and Xbox Series, as well as on PC.
