Upon its launch in 2022, MultiVersus experienced a phenomenal start, peaking at 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the player base plummeted by 99% shortly thereafter, prompting Warner Bros. Games to terminate the project in June 2023, labeling it an "open beta test." Despite a relaunch in May 2024 with new updates, the game has struggled to recapture its initial popularity.
The upcoming fifth season, set to begin in early February, represents what might be the last opportunity for developers to rekindle player interest. Essentially, this version of MultiVersus is a relaunch, though the developers have chosen to describe the 2022 release as a "beta."
