According to AusilMV, a trusted source indicated that Season 5 is a critical effort to revive the game's fortunes. While this remains a rumor, the situation appears concerning.
Upon its launch in 2022, MultiVersus experienced a phenomenal start, peaking at 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the player base plummeted by 99% shortly thereafter, prompting Warner Bros. Games to terminate the project in June 2023, labeling it an "open beta test." Despite a relaunch in May 2024 with new updates, the game has struggled to recapture its initial popularity.
The upcoming fifth season, set to begin in early February, represents what might be the last opportunity for developers to rekindle player interest. Essentially, this version of MultiVersus is a relaunch, though the developers have chosen to describe the 2022 release as a "beta." Despite initial enthusiasm from the player community, the decision to temporarily shut down the game in June 2023, announced in March of that year, left many fans disappointed, especially those who had purchased the premium edition in support of the developers.
